# Cheap eats at Miami airport

Find lower-cost food options at MIA, including before-security stops, late-night choices and when leaving your gate isn't worth it.

[What's open at MIA right now](https://miaairportguide.com/dining/#open-now): Every place to eat and shop open at this hour, in airport time, with when it closes.

For a cheap bite at MIA, start with a Cuban pastry, an empanada, a pizza slice or a sandwich near your route. Before security, Central Terminal’s Level 2 departures has the most counters in one place, listed in the table below. MIA doesn’t publish a price comparison, so no one can promise which counter is cheapest.

## Choose your side of security first

Already through security? Stay near your concourse unless you have time to leave, return through screening and reach your gate.

Still on the public side? Use the counters inside the terminal before looking for a restaurant outside the airport. [Our food directory](https://miaairportguide.com/dining/) places these options before security, so you can compare posted menus without committing to a trip away from MIA.

| If you’re here | Start with | Why make the walk? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Central Terminal, Level 2 departures | Subway, Dunkin’, Burger King, Au Bon Pain or Café Versailles | Compare a sandwich or smaller bite before you enter the security line. |
| Central Terminal, Level 1 arrivals | Café La Carreta | A Cuban café option if you’ve landed hungry or you’re meeting someone before security. The directory lists 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. |
| North Terminal, Level 2 departures | Au Bon Pain | A before-security sandwich and bakery stop. The directory lists 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. |
| South Terminal, before security | Gilbert’s Food Bar | A listed counter for a snack or sandwich before screening. The directory lists 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily, but gives no precise position within the terminal. |

For a different Central Terminal meal, the directory also lists [Chef Creole](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/chef-creole/) on Level 2 before security, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. [Villa Italian Kitchen](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/villa-italian-kitchen/) is another Level 2 option, listed daily from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

## If you’re already at the gates

Buy near your gate, since every concourse below has a sandwich, pizza or Cuban counter. Here they are by concourse, in gate order:

- **[Concourse D](https://miaairportguide.com/terminals/north/#concourse-d):** [Subway](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/subway-north-terminal/) by D10, [Einstein Bros. Bagels](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/einstein-bros-bagels/) by D26, [305 Pizza](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/305-pizza/) by D27 and [La Carreta](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/la-carreta/) by D37. [Café Versailles](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/cafe-versailles-north-terminal-gate-d-5/) has counters by D5, [D20](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/cafe-versailles-north-terminal-gate-d-20/) and [D44](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/cafe-versailles-north-terminal-gate-d-44/). Pick the one on your walk to the gate.
- **Central Terminal gates:** [Sergio’s Cuban](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/sergios-cuban/) is by E5. [Guava & Java](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/guava-java-central-terminal-gate-f-14/) is by F14 and [G9](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/guava-java-central-terminal-gate-g-9/). [Farm2Air Market](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/farm2air-market-central-terminal-gate-g-4/) is listed by G4 and [G8](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/farm2air-market/). Check what’s ready to take away before joining a sit-down line.
- **South Terminal gates:** [Subway](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/subway-south-terminal/) is by H7, [Pizza Hut](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/pizza-hut/) by H12 and [Earl of Sandwich](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/earl-of-sandwich/) by J8. [Burger King](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/burger-king-south-terminal/) is in the H-J Connector Food Court.

On MIA’s MIA2GO ordering page, you can browse participating menus and order ahead for pickup, as MIA’s announcement describes.

Kerwin McKenzie of Cruisinaltitude spent a $12 airline food voucher in Concourse D and found that adding a drink could leave too little for a meal. If you have a voucher, ask whether the counter accepts it and check the final total, including tax, before ordering. The pair behind Everyday Getaways shared one rice-and-pork plate at [La Carreta](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/la-carreta/) by D37, so one order there can feed two.

## Is food outside MIA worth the trip?

For a short wait, eat inside the terminal. Greater Miami’s official visitor guide lists Airport Cafe & Liquors in Miami Springs as a casual airport-area choice, and lists other restaurants near MIA. Neither that guide nor MIA gives a walking route, a walking time or a cheaper total once you pay to get there. A place described online as “across from the airport” is not enough reason to set off on foot with a bag and a boarding time.

For a layover outside MIA, Greater Miami’s visitor bureau advises allowing at least two hours **to return to departures**, plus time for security and your walk to the gate.

## When the first choice fails

If the menu costs more than you expected, step aside and compare a single item at the next counter. If a listing says open but the shutters are down, use the [food directory](https://miaairportguide.com/dining/) to find another counter on your side of security.

Late at night, Central Terminal’s before-security [Subway](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/subway-open-24-hours/) and [Dunkin’](https://miaairportguide.com/venues/dunkin-open-24-hours/) are the clearest directory listings: both say open 24 hours. If you’re already airside, the directory doesn’t establish an equally dependable overnight meal on every concourse. Buy near your gate while a counter is open, or ask airport staff what’s serving without leaving your secure area.
