Your bag didn't come off the carousel at MIA? Where each airline's baggage office is, what to file before you leave, and the deadlines that decide your claim.

Baggage claim

Report it **before you leave the airport**, at your airline’s baggage office on the ground level. MIA doesn’t handle delayed bags: each airline delivers its own baggage and runs its own claims. American’s office is at **Door 2**, Delta’s at **Door 24** and Air Canada’s at **Door 30**, all on Level 1 beside the carousels.

## Find your airline’s baggage office

All the [carousels](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/baggage-claim/) are on the ground floor, Level 1. These are the baggage offices MIA lists:

| Airline | Where | Phone |
| --- | --- | --- |
| American Airlines | Level 1, Door 2 | 786-591-3500 |
| Delta | Level 1, Door 24 | 305-870-6445 or 305-870-6446 |
| Air Canada | Level 1, Door 30 | 458-262-6926 |
| United | Level 1, Door 23 | 786-382-2245 |
| Southwest | Level 1, Door 24 | 786-299-5615 |
| Frontier | Level 1, Door 14 | 786-305-5856 |

If your [airline](https://miaairportguide.com/airlines/) isn’t on the list, MIA’s advice is to contact the airline directly.

## What to file, and when

Deadlines differ by airline. These are American’s:

- **Flights within the US:** report a delayed bag within 4 hours of arriving, or within 12 hours if you used its Bags VIP Luggage Delivery.
- **International flights:** report it on arrival, before you leave the airport.
- You get a **13-character file ID**, for a delayed bag or a damaged one. Keep it: you need it to track the bag and to claim anything.

Instead of queuing at Door 2, American also takes the report on your phone. Scan the QR code on its sign at baggage claim, then enter your last name and your confirmation code or bag tag number.

Either way, have your bag tag receipt and boarding pass to hand, with a description of the bag and its contents and an address for delivery.

## What happens next

On American, the file ID drives everything after the report:

- **While you wait:** it reimburses reasonable and necessary items you need right away while you’re away from home without your bags. Send the file ID, a copy of your ticket receipt and baggage claim checks, and the original, dated, itemized receipts within 30 days of the delay.
- **Still missing after 5 days:** submit an online claim using the file ID. If the bag is never found, expenses already reimbursed come off the final settlement.
- **Back with items missing:** file a missing-items claim within 24 hours of getting the bag back for a US domestic trip, or within 7 days for an international one.

## Damaged bag

Report damage at the same baggage office before you leave. On flights within the US, American asks for the report before you leave the airport or within 6 hours of receiving the bag. On international flights, it asks for it before you leave the airport or within 7 days of receiving the bag.

## Lost something else

Something you left in the terminal, a garage or at a checkpoint goes to MIA’s [lost and found](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/lost-and-found/) in North Terminal D, Level 4, not to the [baggage storage](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/luggage-storage/) counters in Concourses E and H, and something left on the plane goes back to the airline. Our guide to [getting a lost item back at MIA](https://miaairportguide.com/guides/lost-something-at-mia-how-get-it-back/) says how to report each case, how long items are kept and what you need to collect one.

If you’re leaving the airport without your bag, the taxi stand is on the arrivals level outside baggage claim. Our [taxi fares guide](https://miaairportguide.com/guides/miami-airport-taxi-flat-fares-zone/) covers what the meter costs to places around Miami.
