Picking up the car

The Rental Car Center at 3900 NW 25th Street is open 24 hours, but MIA warns that some operators close between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Landing late, check your company’s counter hours before you fly. Inside the center are ACE, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Carnival Rent A Car, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Royal, Sixt and Thrifty. Off-airport companies pick up outside the center’s lobby on request, so call yours on arrival. If you’re returning the car somewhere other than MIA, ask about a one-way drop fee before you sign.

Driving means a toll on Alligator Alley

FDOT’s toll table lists two all-electronic plazas on Alligator Alley, East and West, and each charges a car $3.18 with SunPass or $3.51 by toll-by-plate. You don’t stop to pay. Florida’s Turnpike says toll-by-plate isn’t available to customers in rental cars, and MIA tells them to ask about charging tolls to the card they rented with. Our guide to tolls and SunPass in a rental car explains what to ask at the counter.

The bus leaves from one MIA Mover ride away

FlixBus and Greyhound board at the bus bays at the Miami Intermodal Center, 3801 NW 21st Street. From the terminal, take the free MIA Mover from Level 3, between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages, and follow the signs for the bus bays. RedCoach sells Miami to Naples trips too.

The Everglades are on the way
