A multi-sensory room

**MIA has two multi-sensory rooms, both after security and both open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.** One is in Concourse D, just past Checkpoint 4. The other is in the South Terminal, in the connector between Concourses H and J. MIA designed them for travelers with cognitive and developmental disabilities, such as autism. They’re calm rooms with sensory aids meant to ease the anxiety of a busy airport.

## Which room is on your route

| Your gate | Nearest room | How to get there |
| --- | --- | --- |
| D1 to D60 | Concourse D, just past Checkpoint 4 | Through Checkpoint 4 or along the D concourse. The D Skytrain helps with the distance. |
| E1 to E33 | Concourse D, just past Checkpoint 4 | Checkpoint 4 serves both D and E. Ask staff whether your route to it stays inside security. |
| H3 to H17 or J2 to J18 | The H–J connector | Between the two concourses after security |
| F or G | Neither is close | Ask staff which room you can reach without clearing security again |

For a flight after closing time, our guide to [quiet places to rest at MIA](https://miaairportguide.com/guides/quiet-places-rest-at-mia-without-lounge/) covers other options.

## Other calmer places

- **The [chapel](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/chapel-prayer/)** is on Level 1 of Concourse D, the arrivals level, between International Arrivals and Carousel 22. It’s open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It also holds a Saturday 7 p.m. Catholic Mass and weekly Christian services, and the chapel page lists the service times by season so you can avoid arriving mid-service.
- **A lounge** can be quieter than a gate area, if you can get in. Our guide to [MIA lounges that sell passes at the door](https://miaairportguide.com/guides/which-mia-lounges-let-you-pay-at-door/) lists them.
- **A private sleep room.** Wait n’ Rest, after security in Concourse D near Gate D15, rents rooms by the hour around the clock. Short stays start at $40 for 60 minutes for one guest, and you need a same-day flight with access to Concourse D. Our [sleeping and rest page](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/sleeping-rest/) lists the rates for two to four guests and the eight-hour package.

## Help before and during the trip

- **Sunflower lanyard.** MIA takes part in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program. The lanyard quietly tells staff you may need more time or have questions. It doesn’t skip lines. To get one, email [adacoordinator@miami-airport.com](mailto:adacoordinator@miami-airport.com) and allow 7 business days for delivery in the US or 14 elsewhere. [Our hidden disabilities guide](https://miaairportguide.com/guides/hidden-disabilities-at-miami-airport/) also covers visual paging, sign language by video and Aira for low vision.
- **MIAair rehearsals.** MIA runs practice trips so travelers with disabilities can rehearse the trip from check-in to boarding before a real flight. To be added to a future rehearsal, register on MIA’s MIAair page.
- **Security.** TSA Cares helps plan screening if you call at least 72 hours before you fly, on 1-855-787-2227.
- **Getting around and medical help.** Our [mobility page](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/mobility/) covers wheelchair service and charging, and our [medical and first aid page](https://miaairportguide.com/amenities/medical-first-aid/) covers emergencies.
