Where to leave your bag at MIA between flights
Find MIA's two baggage storage counters, their listed hours and costs, and the security checkpoint for your onward flight.

If you have your bag, MIA lists Communitel storage before security in Central Terminal E and South Terminal H. Both counters are on Level 2. There are no self-service airport lockers. Before you cross the terminal with a suitcase, ask your airline whether it will give you the bag during your connection. If the airline keeps it for your next flight, you have nothing to store.
Will you have your checked bag in Miami?
Ask the airline handling your arrival before you follow baggage claim signs. Show an agent your baggage tag and your onward booking. Ask where you must collect the bag, whether you must recheck it at MIA, and when the onward airline will accept it. That last answer matters if you hope to hand over a bag early rather than pay for storage.
MIA’s connecting flights guide does not give one baggage rule for every airline, ticket combination or international arrival. Get the answer for your itinerary from the airline.
If you’re arriving from outside the United States, MIA’s international arrivals page has you clear immigration and then collect your bags in the reclaim area. On an international flight connecting to a U.S. destination, it says to claim your bag before going through U.S. Customs. Otherwise it tells you to check with your airline whether your luggage was checked through to your final destination.
Find a counter you can get back to before it closes
MIA’s directory lists these locations. Both sit before security, so you can reach them with a bag after baggage claim.
| Counter | Where to find it | Hours shown by MIA |
|---|---|---|
| Communitel in Central Terminal E | Level 2, departures, before security | MIA’s directory and services page list daily 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. |
| Communitel in South Terminal H | Level 2, by Door 20, before security | Open daily 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Confirm the hours before making a late pickup plan. |
MIA’s own pages disagree on the E counter: one lists 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., another 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Before you plan an early drop or a late pickup, call the E counter at 305-869-1163 or the H counter at 305-869-1148 and ask for its closing time. Our luggage storage page has both counters, and the Central Terminal guide and South Terminal guide show where E and H sit.
What does storage cost?
MIA’s services page links a daily-rate flyer, but does not print a storage price on the page. Its facility listing says rates are daily and based on baggage size. Communitel charges $12, $14, $16, $18, $22 or $24 per bag per day, depending on size, from a bag up to 18 inches to an item 4 to 10 feet long. The $10 charge you may see on MIA’s services page is for an affidavit.
Communitel requires photo ID and your flight ticket. Keep both with you when you go to the counter. If you don’t yet have a flight ticket, call first and ask what Communitel will accept. MIA’s FAQ says there are no lockers or long-term baggage storage, while the visitor bureau describes Communitel options for short and long stays. Neither statement tells you that you can retrieve a bag after the counter closes. Confirm overnight acceptance and collection arrangements directly if your flights cross a night.
Drop off, leave and get back to your gate
If you collect a checked bag, follow your arrival instructions to baggage claim first. MIA places domestic baggage claim on Level 1. International arrivals through D and E also reach Level 1, while J international arrivals exit on Level 3. Use our baggage claim page if you’re unsure where to meet your bag. Then go up to your chosen storage counter on Level 2.
Your return has to fit the counter’s confirmed hours, with time left to reach your airline’s counter if the bag needs rechecking, clear security and walk to your gate. If the airline already holds your checked bag, skip storage and use the connection guide to plan your transfer.
After pickup, match your onward gate to its checkpoint on our security page. Only Checkpoint 9, between H and J, is listed as open 24 hours, and the others close between 7:15 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Even for an H or J flight, the Communitel H counter closes at night, so a late departure still needs an early pickup.
If you head into Miami while your bag is stored, count the ride back to the counter as part of the plan. Taxis leave from Level 1 outside baggage claim and run on the meter, with a $15 minimum from MIA. For rail, take the MIA Mover from Level 3 between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages to the airport station. The Metrorail Orange Line runs toward Government Center and Brickell. MIA’s transport listing gives a $2.25 one-way fare. If neither counter’s pickup window fits, the visitor bureau’s luggage storage guide lists storage in the city, such as Bounce’s network of shops and hotels and Hold My Luggage in Bayside Marketplace.
If your bag never reaches the carousel, contact the airline’s baggage office. The airport’s Lost and Found handles other lost items, not a substitute baggage claim for a checked suitcase.
