Wrapping and protecting bags at MIA

MIA has baggage wrapping stations on the 2nd level, before security. Why the on-site wrap matters if TSA opens your bag, and other ways to protect a checked case.

MIA has baggage wrapping stations throughout the 2nd level (departures), before security, so you can wrap a checked bag right before you go to your airline’s counter. Wrap it here rather than at home: MIA says only bags wrapped by the on-site vendor are rewrapped free if the wrap has to come off, and the vendor won’t rewrap a bag wrapped at home.

Wrapping comes out of your check-in time, so add it to the timings in our guide to how early to arrive at Miami International. Our airline directory shows which concourse and check-in counters your airline uses, and our terminal guide shows the layout.

The film is tamper-evident, and MIA calls it nontoxic and recyclable. The airport doesn’t name the wrapping company on its services page or publish a price, so ask at the station before they start. If you arrive with a bag already wrapped at home, ask your airline at check-in whether it’ll take it.

Other ways to protect a checked bag

Communitel Baggage Storage, which runs MIA’s baggage room, sells luggage straps, locks and tape at its counters before security in Concourse E and Concourse H.

If the bag arrives damaged anyway, report it at your airline’s baggage office on Level 1 before you leave. Our guide to delayed or lost baggage at MIA lists each office’s door and the reporting deadlines, and MIA’s lost and found is in North Terminal D, Level 4.

If you need to leave a bag at the airport rather than send it on a flight, our luggage storage page covers the daily rates and hours at both counters.
