Settle the next flight and the hotel question with your airline before its desk empties out. Where you sleep then depends on whether you’re still past security. Past security, the 24-hour Wait n’ Rest sleep rooms in Concourse D give you a private bed. Before security, the Miami International Airport Hotel is inside Central Terminal E, and hotel shuttles leave from Level 1 arrivals.
Before the airline desk closes
Our airline directory shows where your airline’s counters are. Get these four answers from your airline, in the app or from an agent:
- Your new flight, with a confirmed seat.
- Whether the delay was within the airline’s control. If it was, US airlines on the Department of Transportation’s FlightRights.gov dashboard commit to a meal or meal voucher for a wait of 3 hours or more. For an overnight wait, all but Frontier also commit to a hotel and transport to and from it. They don’t cover a delay or cancellation the airline didn’t cause.
- Where your checked bag spends the night. Ask whether you can get it back tonight, and take out anything you need, such as medicine.
- Whether you can stay airside. If you have a boarding pass for the new flight, ask whether you can remain in the secure area overnight.
Our guides to a missed connection and a cancelled flight go through the rebooking for each case.
Pick your night
| You are | Best option | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Past security, want a bed | Wait n’ Rest, Concourse D near Gate D15 | Listed as open 24 hours, for travelers with a same-day flight and access to Concourse D. Rooms sleep one to four and have private showers. You book by the hour, up to 12 hours. MIA’s launch announcement listed $200 for eight hours for one guest. |
| Past security, fine with a seat | Your gate area, or a 24-hour lounge if you qualify | Ask an employee where you can stay. The Avianca and TAP Portugal Lounge across from J6 is open 24 hours for eligible passengers. |
| Before security, want a room | The Miami International Airport Hotel, Level 2 of Central Terminal E | You won’t need a shuttle. Call (305) 871-4100 to ask for a room tonight. |
| Given a voucher for another hotel | The hotel’s shuttle, from Arrivals, Level 1 | MIA’s shuttle zones are across from doors 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 15, 20, 23, 24 and 28. Check your hotel’s door and last pickup. |
Our terminal guide shows which concourse and checkpoint serve your gate. Without a room or a lounge, read our guide to sleeping at Miami airport overnight before you pick a bench.
Food, water and help at night
- Before security, Subway on Level 2 in Central Terminal E and Dunkin’ on Level 2 in Central Terminal F list 24-hour service.
- After security, the 24-hour listings are snacks: Carlo’s Bake Shop Express at H11 and J11, and Misha’s Cupcakes by G15. Our guide to food open 24 hours at MIA has the full list.
- Medicine and toiletries: Pharmabox vending machines list 24-hour service at D15 before security and at E31 and J9 after it.
- Help: MIA’s information counters close at 10 p.m., but its white courtesy phones work around the clock. MIA’s main number is 305-876-7000.
Getting back through security in the morning
If you’ve left the secure area, check which checkpoint serves your gate and when it opens. Checkpoint 9, for H and J, is listed as open 24 hours. The others open between 3:30 a.m. and 4:15 a.m., except the DFIS checkpoint in D at 5:15 a.m. Our security page lists every checkpoint and the gates it serves.
