Parking at MIA for a cruise
Compare MIA and PortMiami parking for a week at sea, including the transfer, fees and the trip back to your car.

Park at PortMiami if you want your car near the ship. MIA’s economy lot can cost less for a week, but you’ll need a ride to the port and another ride back. MIA’s airport shuttle goes to its terminals, not your cruise terminal.
If you’re already at the airport with keys and bags, those two extra rides can outweigh a cheaper daily rate. Check your ship’s assigned terminal before you choose either parking spot.
What a week could cost
These are published parking rates, not a quote for your itinerary. The seven-day figures below assume seven chargeable days for one vehicle using one space. Your entry and exit times can change the bill, especially at PortMiami, which charges for a day or any fraction of one.
| Parking choice | Published rate | Seven chargeable days | What else you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIA economy park-and-ride | Up to $12 a day, plus a $0.35 convenience fee per transaction | $84, plus the transaction fee | A ride between MIA and PortMiami in each direction |
| MIA garage | Up to $25 a day | $175 | A ride between MIA and PortMiami in each direction |
| MIA valet, Departures level of the Dolphin and Flamingo garages | $39 a day | $273 | A ride between MIA and PortMiami in each direction |
| PortMiami garages C, D and G, and Surface Lot E | $25 per day or fraction for overnight parking | $175 | Get to your assigned cruise terminal and its parking area |
| PortMiami garages AA and B | $35 per day for overnight parking | $245 | Check the booking arrangements for your garage |
MIA economy leaves $91 before its transaction fee for both port transfers, compared with seven $25 port days. Get the price of each ride for your actual travel dates before calling that a saving. A taxi to PortMiami runs on the meter, since Miami-Dade County ended flat fares: about $30 to $36 each way on MIA’s published rates. There is no fixed ride-app price. Carnival’s own listing puts its airport-to-port transfer from $22.99, hourly from MIA between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on cruise day. Other lines set their own prices.
MIA’s $25 garage rate gives you no parking-rate advantage over the $25 port facilities in this example. PortMiami’s Garage A sends drivers to Royal Caribbean’s parking site for its rate and reservations. The PortMiami page doesn’t give a rate for garages J or K. Check those with PortMiami before comparing them.
If you park at MIA
MIA’s economy lot is at 1350 NW 45 Ave, Miami, FL 33126. Its shuttle runs to and from the airport terminals 24 hours a day and stops on the departures level, across from Doors 3, 11 and 26. MIA’s opening announcement put it at every 15 minutes. From the terminal, take a taxi, a ride app or a cruise transfer to the port. MIA lists pre-arranged cruise-line transportation at the North bus station, Concourse D, level 1, Door 1, or the South bus station, Concourse J, level 1, Door 33. Confirm the cruise line will take you and your bags before counting on it.
MIA’s parking page does not state a maximum stay for the economy lot. Check your full parking dates with MIA if you’ll leave the car there through the cruise. Its garages allow overnight parking for up to 45 days. MIA says cars left in a garage beyond that limit can be towed at the owner’s expense.
On the way back, arrange your ride from the ship to MIA, then take the economy shuttle to your car. If you used a garage, go straight to that garage instead. Save the garage or lot name and photograph your space.
If you reserve a MIA garage space, use the QR code from your confirmation at entry and exit. Don’t pull a ticket at entry: MIA says you could be charged again. You can modify or cancel a reservation up to 24 hours before its start, but MIA keeps the $2.99 reservation fee. If your cruise runs late, MIA says you may need to pay the difference before exiting. Keep the code available after you disembark.
If you park at the port
PortMiami’s terminal page names the usual cruise-line terminals, but a ship’s assignment is the detail you need on sailing day. PortMiami places parking by terminal: AA at Garage AA, A at Garage A, B at Garage B, and D at Garage D or Surface Lot D. Terminals F, G and V use Garage G. PortMiami’s parking list includes a Terminal G, but its terminal page describes G as a planned new Royal Caribbean terminal that is not yet open, so confirm the letter in your cruise documents before giving a driver G. Terminal J uses Garage J or K. Use the port’s parking page for the full terminal list and addresses.
PortMiami advises dropping luggage at the terminal before parking when you can. That spares your group a walk back with every bag. A driver can then park and rejoin them. Don’t assume the port’s free shuttle will take you from an airport lot to the ship. PortMiami says its free shuttle operates only on cruise days. Its FAQ describes a shuttle between terminals when a ship departs from one terminal and returns to another. Neither statement promises a MIA-to-port transfer.
Cruise-day garages have attendants from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to PortMiami. If your parking plan depends on arriving or collecting your car outside those hours, or on a non-cruise day, call PortMiami Cruise Operations or Port Security at 305-347-4800 first. PortMiami’s FAQ says there is no reserved parking in general, while its parking page directs Garage A customers to Royal Caribbean and Garage B customers to ParkWhiz/NCL for reservations. Follow the arrangement for your specific garage, not the blanket FAQ answer.
One traveler reported in a video confusing loops and a wrong turn while trying to reach Terminal B. Put the terminal letter, not just “PortMiami,” into your navigation before you set off.
Tall vehicles, disabled permits and hotel deals
If you have a tall vehicle, check clearance before paying. MIA directs vehicles over 7 feet to its marked high-vehicle area beside Dolphin Garage or the economy lot. PortMiami publishes different clearances by garage and floor. Its open Surface Lot E accepts oversized vehicles, with a $25 per-space daily rate. Two spaces cost $50 a day. Compare your vehicle’s height and space needs with the port’s clearance chart.
A disabled parking permit alone doesn’t make a cruise week free. Both MIA and PortMiami charge most permit holders the standard rates after two complimentary hours, and Florida law exempts only a few vehicles. Check MIA’s parking rules or PortMiami’s rules against your vehicle before you budget for an exemption.
If you’re staying near MIA before the cruise, ask the hotel exactly how many parking days its offer covers and whether any shuttle goes to PortMiami, not only to MIA. MIA’s own FAQ tells guests to check hotel shuttle service with the hotel. A shuttle labeled “airport” doesn’t settle the cruise transfer.
