Getting from MIA to where you are going
How to get from Miami International Airport to PortMiami, Fort Lauderdale and FLL, Key West, Key Largo, Islamorada and Marathon and more, every way compared.
Each page compares the ways to reach one place from Miami International Airport: the time, the cost, and the first and last departure from the airport, from published timetables, fares and the airport's own transport records. Where a source did not publish a number, the page says so instead of guessing.
Places compared from MIA
PortMiami is the cruise port, and it is the one trip here where the cruise line often decides how you go. The airport lists four ways to make the trip, from a pre-booked cruise transfer to a taxi meter.
Fort Lauderdale is a different county and a different airport. The trip is a train question for most people: two rail services leave from Miami, and a taxi across the county line costs about $100 on the meter.
Key West is a four-hour trip from MIA by road, and the shuttle from the airport is built around three fixed departures. The other real choices are to fly the last leg or to rent a car.
The Keys before Key West are reached the same way as Key West, but you get off earlier. The shuttle's timetable gives a clock time for each stop, which is what most of these travelers need.
Two buses run from the MIA Metrorail station to Miami Beach, and the fast one is not the one with the lowest number. The 150 is an airport express. The 36 is a local that runs longer hours.
Downtown is where rail beats the road. Metrorail's Orange Line reaches Government Center in 15 minutes and Brickell in 17, for $2.25, but only until the early evening on through trains.
Palm Beach County is a rail trip from Miami. Both services that go there start away from the terminal, so the first decision is which station you can reach.
Orlando is the longest trip here that people still make without flying. The train, a nonstop flight and a bus each take a different kind of traveler, and driving is the slowest of them.
