Tri-Rail
From the terminal's third level, the free MIA Mover takes you to Tri-Rail's Miami Airport station. Northbound trains leave it 25 times on weekdays and 15 times on weekends. The ride to the Fort Lauderdale Airport station is 39 minutes and to the Fort Lauderdale station 46 minutes. Coming back, the last train reaches the Miami Airport station at 10:50 p.m. on weekdays and 10:16 p.m. on weekends, after 43 minutes from Fort Lauderdale Airport. Fares are charged by the number of zones crossed. From the Fort Lauderdale Airport station, a complimentary Tri-Rail shuttle bus takes Tri-Rail passengers to the FLL terminals during train operating hours, approximately every 15 to 20 minutes.
Brightline
Brightline trains do not stop at MIA. A shuttle takes you to MiamiCentral Station (600 NW 1st Avenue) and leaves 10 minutes after southbound trains arrive, so you can pair it with a train time. Brightline's Fort Lauderdale station is at 101 NW 2nd Avenue, and it runs its own shuttle from there to FLL: $12 plus a $3 fuel surcharge, daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., picking up at Terminal 1 Zone B, Terminals 2 and 3 Zone F and Terminal 4 Zone B.
Taxi
Taxis load at the arrivals level curb outside baggage claim. The meter is the price: $2.95 for the first 1/6 mile, $0.85 for each 1/6 mile up to one mile, $0.55 for each 1/6 mile after that, $0.40 a minute while waiting, and a $2.00 airport charge. Tolls come on top, and an SUV or van adds 30 percent. Miami-Dade dropped flat fares, so every trip is metered. A trip to another county is still metered by the same formula. Ask the driver whether the meter or a quoted price applies before you get in.
Ride app
Pickups are on the first level (arrivals), at the middle median beyond the crosswalk, and on the second level (departures). The app shows the zone and door number. The airport publishes no ride-app fares, so the price to FLL is whatever the app quotes.
Good to know
- Brightline's Fort Lauderdale shuttle stops running at 7 p.m., so a late arrival at the station has no train-to-airport link.
